Are you pulling your hair out because another employee complaint just landed on your desk?
Will you have to spend (yet more) time and money on recruiting and onboarding another employee this quarter?
Have you just received yet another customer complaint because one of your staff was rude or unhelpful?
Or maybe, your frustration is at an all time peak, because your managers aren’t doing their jobs. You know, that part of their job where they have to manage their staff?

All of these problems are symptoms of problems with the culture of your business/organisation.
Yep, I’m calling it.
Sure, each of these are a pain in the you know where that will, in and of themselves, require a resolution.
Which could range anywhere from implementing performance management processes for one or more individuals; commencing formal investigations; implementing training; and may, in some instances, require an overhaul of processes. Plus the occasional exit of employees from your business.
However each of these issues, as exhausting and costly as they are, should not be viewed solely in isolation.
In other words, you need to examine the underlying culture of your business to find out where the true heart of the issues lie.
Think of it like this. In our previous home, which was a 1950s Californian Bungalow style (soooo Melbourne, darling), most of the house was in ok shape. But in a few of the rooms, large cracks started randomly appearing in a couple of the rooms. Then the kitchen door wouldn’t shut – it kept expanding, then retracting in size. The floor started to become uneven, and the fridge was suddenly perched on an angle.
All of these issues were annoying; but the real problem was (you guessed it, I know you did!) in the aged and uneven stumps beneath the house.
We needed to invest a hefty amount of cash on restumping the house, to prevent further issues from happening; as well as fixing up the problems we could see like the aforementioned cracks in the wall.
Culture is the same. Essentially, it’s the foundation of your business.
The even better news about what happens when you spend time and money on fixing your culture, is that not only can it help resolve many of those issues outlined at the start of this blog; but the process is a proactive one as well as reactive.
In other words, improving your underlying culture helps prevent further issues occuring in the future AND leads to your staff being more engaged in your business.

This is good news for your individual staff members; for teams in your business, and of course for the business overall. Not to mention, good for your personal stress levels.
I think we can call that a win:win, don’t you?
